Tips and E-mailing Photos |
|
A
great photo makes a great portrait. A poor photo makes a poor portrait. |
|
A good focused
photo 5x7 or larger with subjects head taking up over half of the
photo is a good start.
Don't worry about red-eye or backgrounds we will make the necessary
corrections. If you have taken
a picture with a digital camera make sure the photo is high resolution.
Do not print out your
photo on a laser or inkjet printer and send us, it is better to either
e-mail us the original file or burn it to a
disc and mail it to us. See below the difference between a high resolution
photo and a low resolution
photo and directions on how to e-mail us the correct file size and
type.

Explaining
a few words that relate to digital photographs:
|
Resolution
refers to how many pixels there are in a square inch. The
more pixels
in a square inch the higher the resolution and the higher the file
size. Pixel is short for
picture element. You want a photograph to have a resolution at least
1M which means
1million pixels per square inch or higher. If you take a picture
with your digital camera
set at 2M then the file size will equal 2M. A picture taken at 5M
will equal a file size of 5M.
Resolution can also be referred to as dpi(dots
per square inch) Many programs use the term
dpi when saving or exporting a photographs. The higher the resolution,
the more detail in your photograph.
We recommend you save your images with a resolution of at least
300 dpi or higher.
So to make things
simple, set your digital camera at the highest setting.
Note: Cell phone cameras use low resolution
so please use a good quality digital camera.

Steps
you should take when e-mailing your digital photographs |
Now that you have your
photos you want to make sure that you save your photos as a jpg
or jpeg
depending on the program you are using. You want to make
sure that your e-mail program does not
automatically reduce your photographs file size. You
can find the resolution and file size settings
located under the preferences in the e-mail program that you are
using. If you use any photo hosting site please
do not send the small web image thumbnails, make
sure you send us the full size original file.
